Education Degrees in Georgia

Higher education in Georgia consists of three stages: Bachelor's program, Master's program and Doctoral program. A study program at a higher education institution covers an average of 60 credits during one academic year.

The study program of the first stage of study (bachelor) consists of at least 240 credits. The first level of higher education can include a teacher training program. Only holders of a state certificate certifying complete general education or persons equivalent to them are eligible to study in bachelor's programs.

The study program of the second stage of study (master's) consists of at least 120 credits. The third stage of education (doctoral program) consists of at least 180 credits. Only those with a master's degree or equivalent are eligible to study for a doctorate.

After completing each level of higher education, a corresponding diploma is awarded. An institution of higher education is authorized to award a secondary qualification student if he has completed part of his study programme. It is allowed to provide secondary specialized education after reaching the specified results for completing a part of the educational program, provided that it is not less than half of the number of credits determined for the educational program.
